Bandar Seri Begawan - The Minister of Communications, Pehin.Orang Kaya Seri Kerna Dato Seri Setia Dr Hj Awg Abu Bakar Hj Apong yesterday officiated the Appreciation Ceremony for high achievers of the PSR and PMB Examinations 2007 of Yayasan Sultan Haji Hassanal Bolkiah (YSHHB} School.

Also present was the granddaughter of His Majesty the Sultan and Yang Di-Pertuan of Brunei Darussalam, YAM Pengiran Anak Raheemah Sanaul Bolkiah Pengiran Maharaja Setia Laila Diraja Sahibul Irshad Pg Anak Hj Abdul Rahim, who is currently a primary six student at the school.

Held at the YSHHB School Hall, the minister who is also the Chairman of YSHHB Board of Directors and Chairman of the Board of YSHHB School Administration in his speech applauded the strong cooperation, commitment, hard work and support provided by all including parents of the students.

The 100% pass achievement in the PSR examinations with all students achieving Grade A in English is the first in the school's history and is the highest academic achievement to date.

He believed such an achievement would be an encouragement and motivation to teachers in other subjects to make stronger efforts to achieve such excellent academic achievement.

"The strength of a building is based on the strength of its foundation and in this regard, the school has contributed by constructing the basic foundation for students so they can enjoy once they move to higher levels," he added.

Yesterday's event began with the recital of al-Fatihah followed by a welcoming speech from the co-chairman, Dr Hj Loji Roji Hj Saibi.

The minister presented the prizes and certificates to 31 students who have achieved 5 straight As in their PSR examinations and 32 students who excelled in the 2007 PMB examinations.

The minister also presented prizes and appreciation certificates to eight teachers who have done a great job in helping the students to excel in the PSR exams and 10 teachers in the PMB exams. -- Courtesy of Borneo Bulletin
