Immigration Offenders Nabbed In Operations
By Liza Mohd

Kuala Belait - Six more foreign workers have been issued special passes for further clarification of their work documents following recent inspections by personnel from the Belait Immigration Enforcement Section.

According to a Belait Immigration Enforcement Section report, the operation codenamed `Pintas 28/2008' saw foreign workers from the Philippines, India, Indonesia, Bangladesh and Malaysia inspected.

Led by the Chief Immigration Officer, the operation - targetting the homes of these foreign workers - is part of continuous operations held in conjunction with the National Day celebration.

Meanwhile, in a different operation codenamed 'Pintas 30/2008,' the department issued seven special passes when inspecting several home construction projects in Tutong.

While inspecting the project site, personnel discovered that two Indonesians had overstayed in the country after the expiry of their employment passes on January 27 and February 16, 2008. The duo has been summoned to the head office on suspicion of breaching Chapter 15(1) Immigration Act Paragraph 17.

In a separate inspection at another site, two Bangladeshi workers were detained on suspicion of breaching Regulation 15(3) Immigration Regulation.

Their respective employment work passes indicated that they were employed as grass-cutters, however, they were found to have been carrying out painting works at the building.

The department is requesting public cooperation in channelling information pertaining to Immigration offences by contacting 3331879 or 2383777 during office hours. -- Courtesy of Borneo Bulletin
