Books Lauched To Preserve Culture,
Heritage
By Huraizah Ahmad
Bandar Seri
Begawan - The launch of five new publications that depict the
history of Brunei Darussalam is quite timely, coinciding with the
recent National Day celebrations.
This was said by Minister of
Culture, Youth and Sports Pehin Orang Kaya Seri Dewa Major General
(R) Data Seri Pahlawan Awang Haji Mohammad bin Haji Daud during the
launch of the new books at Songket Ballroom, The Rizqun
International Hotel in Gadong yesterday.
The launch, the minister said, will
contribute towards spreading the country's "Tunas Bangsa" philosophy
and achieving its developmental goal based on the Malay Islamic
Monarchy (MIB).
The role of the Brunei History
Centre, meanwhile, is to instil the spirit of patriotism among the
people through extensive research into the country's rich past and
heritage, which is in turn, documented in various publications.
The minister also said books, such
as "Brunei Darussalam: Negara Melayu Islam Beraja" by Brunei History
Centre Head Pehin Jawatan Dalam Seri Maharaja Dato Seri Utama Dr
Haji Awang Mohd Jamil Al-Sufri, will provide constructive and
beneficial references to members of the academic community and
students of higher institutions.
Another publication, "Sultan Haji
Hassanal Bolkiah: Penegak Warisan Melayu", by Dr Muhammad Hadi bin
Muhammad Melayong, is a portrayal of the efforts and visions of His
Majesty to protect the sovereignty of the country with MIB
philosophy, he added.
Meanwhile, the launch of the
publications was also held in conjunction with the silver jubilee of
the Brunei History Centre last year, said Brunei History Centre
Deputy Head and event chairman Dr Haji Muhammad Hadi bin Muhammad
Melayong.
He also said the era of
globalisation has generated negative ailments that affect rich
cultures, which are in danger of being wiped out. Thus, various
initiatives have been undertaken by the Brunei History Centre to
document and preserve the country's rich heritage through
publications such as "Brunei Darussalam: Negara Melayu Islam Beraja".
Other books launched yesterday
were: "Dato Godam", "Jurnal Darussalam", and "Pusaka".
These books will be available for
purchase at promotional prices at the upcoming book exhibition at
the International Convention Centre, Berakas. -- Courtesy of Borneo
