Workshop On Ozone Layer Protection
Begins

- A Workshop on servicing procedures for refrigeration equipment in
reducing the emissions of Ozone Depleting Substances have begun
yesterday at the Jefri Bolkiah Engineering College in Kuala Belait.
According to the college's Deputy
Principal, Hj Affandy Damit during the opening ceremony, the
`National Train The-Trainers Workshop on Good Practices in the
Refrigeration Sector' workshop is an effort by the United Nations
Environment Programme, Regional Office for Asia and the Pacific (UNEP
ROAP) in support of the Montreal Protocol by 2010 and promotes an
environment friendly nation.
Some 16 technicians from the
Nahkoda Ragam Vocational School, Jefri Bolkiah Engineering College,
Ministry of Health and Brunei Shell Petroleum Company are attending
the five-day programme.
The workshop is organised in
collaboration between the Department of Technical Education,
Ministry of Education and the Department of Environment, Ministry of
Development, and UNEP.
The training which is facilitated
by the refrigeration management plan implementation officer and a
regional expert from UNEP ROAP will be carried out in two phases. In
the first phase the facilitators will train the selected trainers;
while the second phase will involve the trainers training a further
300 refrigeration technicians and other important stakeholders from
the public and the private sectors.
Within the next five days, the
workshop will also be conducting an open forum, presentations and
hands-on practical on relating to good practices and safety issues
on refrigeration. Among issues to be covered are Ozone Science,
environmental impact of chlorofluorocarbons (CFCs) and their
alternative, retrofitting of Hydrofluorocarbons (HFCs) and CFCs,
introduction to various equipments on refrigeration, and also
alternative refrigerants to be implemented in refrigeration.-- Courtesy of
