Pre-U Students Be In Orientation

Begawan - Sixth form colleges throughout the country began
the enrolment and orientation of new intake of pre-uni students for
2008/2009 academic session.
At Duli Pengiran Muda Al-Muhtadee
College, some 1,055 students registered yesterday morning, the
highest enrolment recorded since the college opened its doors in
1979.
The auditorium was packed with 444
boys and 611 girls, including 53 students from the Temburong
district and five from the Boys Wing of the Ministry of Defence.
The college principal, Hj Muhd Masa
Masdi Muhd Saidun, in his speech stressed the importance of
commitment of studying in the college and having a high sense of
belonging to the school.
All students in this college have
the responsibility to look after the college's image and good name,
as well as having a high sense of belonging and obeying the colleges
rules to assure the safety, security and success of everyone here,"
he said.
He also urged the students to make
sure that the college's harmonious environment maintained.
During the orientation week the new
students will be shown video clips on the rules and regulations of
the college to ensure that they did not lose their way and "get
distracted from their studies", according to Hjh Norlina Hj Mohd
Noor, senior mistress of the Students Affairs Section.
Today the college's Prefects and
Students Council will be holding an exhibition. The orientation will
end on Thursday, February 28.
The Berakas Sixth Form College also
opened its door to the new intake of 653 lower sixth form students,
yesterday.
The day began with registration
session, followed by briefing by the principal, deputy principals
and other senior teachers.
Divided into groups, the new
students led by members of the Students Council and the Pembimbing
Rakan Sebaya, (peer guidance group) or PRS, were seen touring the
huge area of the centre. During the eight- day induction programme,
the new students will involved in various activities with their
fellow seniors to familiarise themselves with the school environment
and members of the Students Council, PRS and teachers.
Meanwhile the Sayyidina Ali
Secondary School in the Belait District saw an increase of
approximately 10 per cent of Pre-U students during admission and
registration session yesterday.
The 372 students, majority of them
girls, were welcomed by Cheong Huat Joo, the principal, at the
opening ceremony held at the school's hall.
As students may be part of
Sayyidina Ali Secondary School for two years only, they must adapt
with the environment and rhythm of the school promptly and engage
actively (in ECAs) without neglecting their priority in studies,"
said Cheong in his welcoming speech.
He reminded students to utilise
their privilege on private study sessions wisely. He also hoped that
parents and guardians would cooperate with the school to motivate,
scrutinise and guide the students in order to achieve well in their
'A' level examinations next year.
After the speech the new Pre-U
students recited the School Pledge led by Muhammad Ayyub Hj
Kamaludin, head of students’ representative council.
During the orientation the students
will be taken on a tour around the school and its facilities. Also
included in the programme are several activities designed to break
the ice and enhance teamwork among students. There will also be
briefings by officers from career, examination, counselling, and
extra curriculum departments as well as motivational talks. -- Courtesy of
