Young Scientists Gear Up For
Regional Meet

Begawan - Four students from various Form Six centres in the
country were hand picked to represent the country at the 6'h
Regional Congress for the Search for Seameo Young Scientists (SSYS)
at SEAMEO RECSAM in Pulau Pinang, Malaysia.
The Brunei contingent will be
leaving for Malaysia on March 2.
Mohd
Syaswan Hj Zainai of Maktah Duli and Hj Muhammad Qawie Awang Hj
Sahli of JIS will be presenting their science project entitled "A
Sustainable Forestry: The Study On Acacia SPP In Berakas Forest
Reserve", while Abdul Hajim Hj Hassan and Abdul Muiz Hj Abdullah of
Berakas Six Form Centre will be presenting their math project
entitled "A Study Of Sixth Form Students' Awareness On Recycling
Activities Through Mathematical Analysis".
While in Malaysia, the Brunei
students will be accompanied by Dayang Sarimah Abu Bakar, a senior
officer from STEP Centre, and two other education officers.
A doa selamat was held at Berakas
Six Form Centre for the Brunei contingent yesterday.
Present as the guest of honour was
Dk Hjh Mastoli bte PSI Pg Hj Ismail, the Acting Director General For
Education cum Director of Exams.
According to the Acting Director of
STEP Centre, Awg Hj Metali Hj Mirasan, this is the first time that
students from Brunei will be presenting Iwo projects at the
competition.
The Brunei contingent has undergone
intensive training since 2007.
The SSYS programme, which gathers
young scientists all over the Asean region, was initiated in 1997.
It is held once every two years.
The Brunei delegation will return
