Immigration Offenders Thrown Behind Bars

Bandar Seri Begawan - Two Indonesians will serve the next three months behind bars and will be whipped three times after they pleaded guilty to entering the country without a valid pass.

The Bandar Magistrate's Court was told that the two illegal immigrants - Zainal bin Anda Suhanda and Supriadi Slamet - were arrested between February 21 and February 22.

In a separate case, Farhana Abdulla Alih, a 32-year-old Filipina, was sentenced to five months' jail for overstaying in the country.

The court was told that her visit pass had expired on June 6, 2006.

Meanwhile, Sudanto, a 31-year-old Indonesian, whose employment pass expired on December 13, 2003, was sentenced to a three-month jail and three strokes of the cane for overstaying in the country. -- Courtesy of Borneo Bulletin
