Pehin Rahman Meets Students In
S’pore

Begawan - The Minister of Education Pehin Orang Kaya Seri
Lela Data Seri Setia Awang Hj Abdul Rahman bin Dato Seri Setia Hi
Mohamed Taib recently met with the students and education officers
who are currently pursuing their studies in different institutions
in Singapore.
The minister was in Singapore to
deliver a keynote address at the Brunei Forum organised by the
Brunei Economic Development Board (BEDB) last week.
Twenty-five Bruneian students are
currently studying in Singapore and the Education Minister met with
18 of them at a get together ceremony.
These students are under the
government scholarship and also under the in-service training
scheme.
Nine locals are undergoing various
educational programmes under the government scholarship and 10
officers under the in service training scheme. Six of them aged
between 14 and 15 years are pursuing their studies at the National
University of Singapore, High School of Science and Mathematics.
Another six students are taking
Diploma in Consumer Science and Technology with Diploma in Home
Economics Education at Temasek Polytechnic, the National Institute
of Education, Nanyang Technology.
Three other students are taking
courses such as MA Education programme at Nanyang Technological
University, BA Political Science (Art and Social Science) at the
National University of Singapore and Association Certified
Accountants (ACCA) and Oxford Brookes Degree Programme in Financial
Training Company, Singapore.
A total of ten officers and senior
officers at the Ministry of Education are also in Singapore taking
courses such as the Leadership in Education Programme (LIEP) and the
Post Graduate in Education (The Teaching of Design and Technology).

These officers are made up of
principals and headmasters. An officer meanwhile is pursuing his MA
in Applied Psychology and a UBD lecturer is doing the PhD programme
in Applied Linguistics.
All these government officers are
studying at the National Institute of Education, Nanyang
Technological University.
Also attending the ceremony were
Permanent Secretary, Deputy Permanent Secretary and Senior Special
Duties
Officers (Planning and Policy) at
the Ministry of Education.
According to Pehin Dato Seri Setia
Awang Hj Abdul Rahman, the Education Ministry will continue to send
students to Singapore to attend various educational programmes.
Meanwhile on February 19, the
Education Minister met with Singapore's Minister of State in
Education, Mr Lui Tuck Yew. At the meeting, several issues on
education were discussed.
Both ministers also took the
opportunity to exchange their experience on the implementation of
new educational programmes as well as the initiatives that were
introduced.
An agreement was also reached
during the meeting for the continuation of cooperation programme
that were identified by the Joint Working Group by both countries in
January this year.
At the same time, Pehin Dato Awang
Hj Abdul Rahman took the opportunity to visit several technical
education institutions and secondary schools to take a closer look
