Hokkian Association Holds 9th
Chinese New Year Denner

Begawan - The Brunei Darussalam Hokkian Association is
gaining recognition as one of the most prominent Chinese
associations in the Sultanate.
It has also recently recorded an
increase in its membership, from 688 to 789 people. This was
revealed by Lim Seng Kok, Chairman of the Hokkian Association,
during the 9th Chinese New Year Dinner last night at the ICC.
In his speech, he also highlighted
that, 333 students, who are also children of the association's
members, would receive appreciation certificates and cash prizes for
their excellent results in last year's academic year.
He congratulated the young
achievers and the parents who play a big part in providing support
and guidance for their success.
Lim Sooi Tiong of the organising
committee also gave a speech in which he said that the association's
members had faced many challenges, which they managed to overcome.
The event's guest of honour was
Pehin Dato Seri Setia Awg Hj Adanan Begawan Pehin Dato Seri Setia Hj
Mohd Yusof, the Minister of Home Affairs.
Also present were Pehin Dato Paduka
Hj Dam Hj Ibrahim, the Deputy Minister of Home Affairs, Madam Tong
Xiaoling, the Chinese Ambassador, as well as Pehin Dato Paduka Onn
Siew Siong and other government officials.
During the dinner, the
association's executive committee ushered in the Chinese New Year
with a toast and belted out songs for the audience. In addition to
the delicious food, the crowd also enjoyed performances by a
specially invited artiste from Malaysia.
