NDP Attends National Day Gathering

Bandar Seri Begawan - Nearly 500 National Development Party (NDP) members joined the 24th National Day gathering at the Taman Sir Haji Omar Ali Saifuddien on Saturday morning.

Led by the NDP director of 24th National Day gathering delegation, Pg Shahminan Pg Hj Ismail, the march past also included NDP Deputy President, Mahmud Morshidi Othman, executive committee members, NDP vice presidents, heads of NDP subdivisions and executive committee members of NDP district communication offices.

The NDP President Yasin Affandy and NDP Permanent Chairman Hj Abd Rahman Yusof attended the gathering as guests.

Pg Shahminan said NDP has participated in national day gatherings over the past three years since its formation on Aug 31, 2005.

"We thank the 24th National Day supreme committee for giving us .an opportunity once again to participate in the gathering," he said.

Members converged at the party's headquarters in Limbaruh Hijau, Jerudong for a goodwill ceremony to appreciate members who joined the march past.

The goodwill ceremony also provided an opportunity for NDP leaders to motivate and inject the spirit of nationalism and patriotism to members at grassroots level.

NDP president Yasin Affandy urged members to carry out their responsibilities and sacrifices as citizens of an independent nation.

"The patriotism and nationalism of citizens should not stop after the gathering and march past celebration but to continue in other forms such as working hard to move the economy and protect the sovereignty of the country and its ruler," he said.

He said a person who loves the nation would not belittle his homeland nor undermine the dignity of his nationality and as long as this spirit is in the heart of the citizens, no one can dispute their patriotism.

He said patriotism is about spirit, emotion and the love for the country and with it would come one's desire, determination, confidence and courage to work for the betterment of the nation.  -- Courtesy of Borneo Bulletin
