Change In Venue For Syair Competition

Bandar Seri Begawan - The Ex-Army Association of Brunei Darussalam (EABD) has announced a last-minute change of venue for the upcoming syair competition which will be held on Friday, Feb 29 at 7.30pm.

The event, to be officiated by the Minister of Culture, Youths and Sports, Pehin Orang Kaya Seri Dewa Major General (Rtd) Dato Seri Pahlawan Awang Hj Mohammad bin Hj Daud, one of the three EABD advisers, will now take place at the Balai Sarmayuda, Language and Literature Bureau, Berakas.

The co-chairman of the competition, WO2 (Rtd) Awang Hj Hamdanl bin Omar, advised invited guests who have received the invitations to come to the new venue.

The event will see five youths, five adults and five senior citizens battling it out for honours in the three categories of the contest.

Norhawadah Ramli, Hasrina Hj Pancha, Muhd Nuh @ Abd Aziz Johari, Nuraqilah Mohd Hasri and Hamzah Sapry will compete in the finals in the youth category.

Meanwhile, in the adult category, Johan Ariffin Hj Emran, Mahmud Abu Bakar, Kusno Sukaimi and Jonidi Hj Sulaiman will demonstrate their syair recital abilities.

Hjh Sapiah Mohd Yussof, Hj Jumat Hj Nasir, Hjh Normah Hj Edinin, Hjh A lijah Hj Ali and Pg Hjh Fatimah Pg Hj Damit will contest in the senior citizens'category.

The competition is organised to commemorate the 24th National Day and to ignite the spirit of patriotism and, nationalism amongst former officers and personnel of the Royal Brunei Armed Forces. -- Courtesy of Borneo Bulletin
