Selangor Edge DPMM FC 2-1
By Alex How
Bandar Seri
Begawan - Ten-man Brunei DPMM FC went down 2-1 to Selangor FA
in the second round of the Malaysian Super League at Hassanal
Bolkiah National Stadium last night.
Brunei DPMM FC's Victor Jaganathan
was shown a straight red card after a shoulder- to-shoulder
collision with Selangor's Mohd Safee Sali in the 18th minute. Both
players were after the ball in Brunei DPMM FC's half before the
collision.
In return, Mohd Safee Sali, who
scored a hat-trick against Brunei DPMM FC in the FA Cup, received a
yellow card for the challenge.
However, Jaganathan made a crucial
contribution in the equalising goal after Brunei DPMM FC trailed by
a goal early in the match. Haji Subhi Abdillah Bakir scored the
equaliser with a powerful header after he met the free-kick sent in
perfectly by Jaganathan in the 15th minute.
The national stadium was back in
business after two weeks of floodlight failure. But the home team
was shocked and fell behind shortly at the start of the match;
Selangor took the lead in the second minute through their captain
Indra Putra Mahayuddin. The former Pahang player sneaked in a
curling free kick and went past Brunei DPMM FC's keeper Molid Wardun
Yussof.
Backed by a sea of supporters on
the night of the country's National Day, Brunei DPMM FC equalised
through Haji Subhi Abdillah Bakir in the 15th minute.
The home team showed great
determination despite losing Jaganathan three minutes later and Mohd
Shahrazen Said came close to take the lead.
Haji
Subhi sent in a deep cross down the right before Mohd Shahrazen
headed it towards Selangor keeper Mohd Suffian Abd Rahman.
On the other side of the field,
Selangor Frank Seator, another scorer in the FA Cup round, lost his
marker and blasted it towards the goal before Wardun parried it
away.
The visitors almost restored their
lead at the start of the second half. Brunei DPMM FC's skipper Pg
Sallehuddin Pg Hj Damit was quick to clear off a header by a
Selangor player before it past the goal line in the 50th minute.
The skipper, deadly with his
sliding tackle, marshalled the defensive line well alongside
Francois Mpessa.
But Selangor took the one man extra
advantage and piled on the-pressure on the home team. Their effort
was finally paid off when substitute Mohd Razman Roslan put Selangor
in front in the 69th minute.

post and Mohd Razman Roslan reacted faster than any other player to
slot it to the back of the net to win 2-1.-- Courtesy of Borneo
