A Unique Experience For Tourists

Bandar Seri
Begawan - The 24th National Day celebrations in Brunei
Darussalam were also a unique draw for tourists, who could be seen
in and around the Taman Sir Muda Omar 'Ali Saifuddien. Andreas Kuehn
and Andrea Seemann from Germany were amongst those who, had flown
into Brunei Darussalam from Europe to see the festivities first
hand.
"We heard that this is one of the
main occasions in which His Majesty comes out (to the capital), the
other being his birthday celebrations," said Kuehn. They were joined
by Olpa Oezbek from Switzerland who had also come to Brunei
Darussalam after reading about the celebrations in Europe.
Another tourist couple was Daniel
Ypersiel and his wife, who had travelled to Brunei via Hong Kong.
The couple who are from Belgium had arrived in the sultanate on
Monday and are spending a week to visit various places, among them
the celebrations in town. "This is very patriotic and colourful, the
people of Brunei are nice and fairly open, very communicative," said
Ypersiel. He also added that Brunei was very unique in that it feels
less stressed than that of other countries.
Meanwhile, there were also some
accidental visitors that had found out about the National Day
celebrations and made the best of their opportunity to see it in
Brunei. Scott Farley, from Queensland, Australia, was pleased at
having the chance to see the milestone despite only being in Brunei
for a stop over.
"I'm actually on my way to Manila,
and it was just a coincidence that this (National Day) was happening
while I'm here," he said.
Total Professeurs Associes (TPA)
founder Alain Quenelle, who was in Brunei Darussalam to deliver a
talk at Universiti Brunei Darussalam was another making the most of
his visit by taking a trip to the capital yesterday. "I have
extended my stay to see the National Day in Brunei," said Quenelle.
