‘Infotainment’ & ‘Edutainment’
By Ben Ng
Bandar Seri
Begawan - Radio Television Brunei (RTB) will be repositioning
channels RTB 1 and RTB2 to provide better services and keep up with
the competition, RTB said yesterday.
Effective today, RTB1 will become
an "infotainment" channel focused on information and entertainment
programmes such as News, National Events, Current Affairs, Forums
and reality-based game shows, RTB Acting Director Hj Osman Hj
Mohammad said.
"This is part of RTB's strategy to
provide better services with attractive programming for the Brunei
audience and also to enhance RTB’s role as the government's media
and main channel of information.
"RTB I on weekdays will broadcast
the News seven times a day, and on weekends (Friday, Saturday and
Sunday) RTB will air the 15-minute News Extra," he said.
"Sports News will be broadcasted
every Monday, Wednesday, Saturday and Sunday at 7pm," said RTB's
Acting Deputy Director, Hj Hamiddon Hj Ibrahim.
The Economic News will air every
Tuesday, Thursday and Friday night, and will focus on business,
industry and consumer issues.
Current Affairs at RTB 1 will be
broadcasted at 8.30pm showcasing the current events happening around
the country.
Sister channel RTB2 will be focused
more on "Edutainment", educational, yet entertaining programmes such
as blockbusters, sitcoms, game shows and popular sports. To allow
better programmes that focus on quality family entertainment,
officials decided to double RTB2's broadcast time from four hours to
eight hours (4pm - 12am) on weekdays.
Weekend broadcasting hours have
been extended, with an airtime of 14 hours that starts at 10am and
runs till midnight.
"Apart from the acquisition and
rescheduling of programmes, we have to realign a lot of things. We
have to realign the way we operate. This means longer working hours,
and people will most likely finish work late at night," said the
Acting Director. -- Courtesy of Borneo
