Goodwill Visit By Co-Op Team

Begawan - Following a MoU (Memorandum of Understanding)
between Brunei Industrial Development Authority (BINA) and
Co-operative College of Malaysia (CCM) was formalised last July
there has been positive interests in Brunei from the Malaysian side.
For instance a delegation from a
leading co-operative body from the State of Perak, Koperasi
Pegawai-Pegawai Kerajaan Taiping Bhd (Coop body of Perak Government
officials) arrived in the sultanate on Wednesday for a four-day
goodwill visit. The 24-member delegation was headed by Ulul Azmi bin
Abdullah who was accompanied by Meor Muhammad Sharifuddin bin Meor
Yahya, officer in attendance from the Commission of Koperasi Wilayah
Taiping.
On Thursday, they made a courtesy
call on the Director of BINA, Pg Sharifuddin bin Pg Hj Matali.
Later, they attended a briefing conducted by the department
officials who briefed them on the agency's' function and role before
they attended a similar function with Gabungan Koperasi Nasional (GKN),
an apex body of co-operative movement in Brunei.
Present at the session was its
Vice-President, Pehin Orang Kaya Laila Perkasa Dato Paduka Colonel
(B) Haji Mahdini bin Dato Paduka Haji Basir and other members of GKN.
The meetings took place at the department's headquarters in Gadong.
The delegation is also scheduled to visit some leading co-operative
establishments and meet up with respective leaders to gain a better
insight into the country's co-operative systems.
The visit is also aimed at
exploring any possibilities of joint ventures with local
co-operatives in line with Brunei's Government efforts to empower
co-operative business activities towards entrepreneurship.
On Friday the entourage will head
for Belait and Tutong Districts for similar visits to several co-op
bodies in the two districts.
