Minister Back From Aviation
Summit, Airshow In S'Pore

Awang Abu Bakar bin Haji Apong, Minister of Communications, returned
home Wednesday after attending the Singapore Aviation Leadership
Summit and the Singapore Airshow 2008 held Feb 17-20, according to a
press release.
The Minister of Communications
conducted work visits, to the Media Development Authority of
Singapore (MDA) and Infocomm Development Authority of Singapore
(IDA). He was joined by senior officers from the Ministry of
Communications and the Chief Executive of the Authority for
Info-communications Technology Industry of Brunei Darussalam (AITI).
They were provided with insights on
the roles and initiatives of the MDA and IDA in promoting and
facilitating the growth of the converging media and ICT industries.
They learned development initiatives rolled out by both agencies.
The minister also met with Dr Lee
Boon Yang, Minister for Information, Communications and the Arts,
and exchanged views on further strengthening the relations between
Brunei Darussalam and Singapore in the ICT sector.
Giovanni Bisignani, IATA Director
General, shared his findings on the growth of the aviation industry
in Asia whereby the aviation industry of Asia plays a pivotal role
in the economy by supporting 10.5million jobs and US$807 billion in
economic activity. Strategies for sustainability and infrastructural
needs in the expanding industry its security requirements were
revealed.
The Singapore Aviation Summit
presented speakers from International Civil Aviation Organisation (ICAO),
International Air Transport Association (IATA) and aviation industry
representatives.
The summit was attended by
ministers responsible for civil aviation, civil aviation
authorities, CEOs of airline companies and key players in the
aviation industry from Asia, Europe, America and Africa.

showcased the latest technologies, aircraft and equipment in the
