Foreigners' Loitering Hotspots Raided In Belait

Kuala Belait - The Belait Immigration Enforcement Section is tightening the control of immigrants working and staying in the country in conjunction with the upcoming 24th National Day celebration.

During the "Pintas 24/2008" operation, a raiding party led by the Chief Immigration Officer conducted an ambush in areas in Belait frequented by foreign workers.

Following the three-hour inspection which started at 7.30pm, the department issued special passes to 12 foreign workers for the purpose of investigation and clarification of their documents.

The department said these areas were frequented by workers alter work but sonic people have expressed their discomfort over foreigners who loiter at market spaces and convenience stores.

The foreign workers inspected consisted of nationals from Indonesia, Philippines. India, Bangladesh and Malaysia.

The department is urging the public to provide any information on suspected immigration offenders by contacting 3331879/3341938 or 2383555 and 2383777 during office hours only. -- Courtesy of Borneo Bulletin
