Water Dept Warns Of Imposters
By Ben Ng
Bandar Seri
Begawan - Imposters posing as officers from the Department of
Water Services have been going around to several homes saying that
their water supply will be 'cut off' if they do not settle their
bills, officials from the Department of Water Services said
yesterday.
The Department has warned members
of the public to be wary of these phoneys, and is reminding the
public that payment transactions are only conducted within its
office premises at designated payment counters and at post offices.
The public are also being urged to
request for official receipts when making payments. In cases where
water supply has to be cut off, the department will usually send out
official warning notices that are issued to customers before any
such action takes place.
The department will not cut the
supply of water without prior notice to the consumers to settle
their outstanding bills, the department stated in its press release.
Some of the other cases the
department highlighted involve imposters offering occupants the
option of reducing the amount on their outstanding bills for "an
extra fee", amounting to a few hundred dollars, as well as offering
other services such as replacing water meters for the same amount.
The department, in its statement,
said that they regularly maintain water meters by replacing faulty
ones through its Meter Maintenance Unit that involve approved meter
installation contractors.
With regards to this, the
department has urged the public to note that the replacement of
water meters should not be charged to the occupants.
The Department of Water Services
said it welcomes feedback from the public and any further queries
can be directed to the Customer Services Section, Department of
Water Services, Jalan Tasek Lama, Bandar Seri Begawan at 2220292 ext
