By Nasroul Hizam

Bandar Seri Begawan - A delegation of 20 officers and staff of the Brunei Liquified Natural Gas (BLNG) paid a visit to the Pusat Ehsan Al-Ameera Hajah Maryam yesterday as part of the company's corporate service for the community.

The group was welcomed at the centre by the Acting Chairman of Pusat Ehsan's Board of Trustees, Dato Paduka Mohd Alimin Abd Wahab who briefed the visitors on the centre's vision, mission, developments since its establishment, funding and programmes.

He said that the nongovernmental, non-profit charity organisation is still trying to reach out to the people of Brunei and visits by companies and associations are welcome.

At the centre the visitors spent time observing the programmes being conducted in such as the Special Training and Education Programme (Step), Early Intervention Programme, hydroponic garden, physical rehabilitation, rnotorskills and sheltered workshop.

Hjh Nooredah Hj Abu Bakar, the coordinator of the visit, said that the group intends to return to the centre and does charity work such as cleaning the general areas and helping the special needs children at the handicraft section. The staff of the Technical Function also presented a donation for the centre to the acting chairman.

The group said that the visit was an eye-opener as it was their first time to Pusat Ehsan as they did not know much about it to begin with.

Apart from an opportunity to foster relations among the employees, it was also a chance for them to give back to society. Many voiced out their eagerness and enthusiasm to come back, armed with rulers and cutters to volunteer helping out to make bookmarks and cards.

Some pointed out that the visit was an experience that made them appreciate and be grateful for life and their children even more.

BLNG has been associated with Pusat Ehsan since the centre's establishment in 2001, playing a major role by involving its staff to participate in charity activities or events organised.

According to the Head of Administration, Hj Abd Hamid Maaruf, BLNG was one of the main customers which contributed about $6,000 to the centre with the sale of various products last year. -- Courtesy of The Brunei Times
