Public Warned Against Impostors
Bandar Seri
Begawan - The Water Services Department has warned the public
to be vigilant against impostors who claim that water services will
be discontinued if they do not pay their water bills.
Payment transactions to the
department are only conducted within its office premises at
designated payment counters and post offices, a press statement from
the department clarified yesterday. "In cases of water supply being
cut off, the department wish to inform the public that official
warning notices are firstly issued to customers before any cut off,"
it added. The department will not carry out any interruption without
prior notice to consumers in settling their outstanding water bills.
Some of these officers claiming
from the Water Services Department have offered to help occupants
reduce the amount of their outstanding bills for an extra fee,
amounting to a few hundred dollars. The impostors have also been
known to offer other services, including replacing water meters for
the same amount. Faulty water meters are replaced through the
department's Meter Maintenance Unit or through approved meter
installation contractors. -- Courtesy of
