Bandar Seri Begawan – The minister of Communications has returned to the country after attending the Singapore Aviation Leadership Summit to deliberate issues in managing safety, security and environmental challenges in the Asian aviation industry.

Pehin Orang Kaya Seri Kerna Dato Seri Setia Hj Abu Bakar also attended the Singapore Airshow 2008, Asia's largest aerospace and defence event from February 19-24, according to the ministry's press release.

The air show is one of the top three air shows in the world and serves as a global marketplace showcasing the latest technologies and aircraft equipment, as well as a networking platform for the military and civil aviation community. Royal Brunei Technical Services is also participating in the airshow as an exhibitor.

Pehin Dato Hj Abu Bakal also met Dr Lee Boon Yang, Singapore's Minister for Information, Communicaions and Arts to discuss ways on strengthening cooperation between Brunei and Singapore in the Information Communications Technology (KT) sector.

While in the city state, the minister also made working visits to the Media Development Authority and Infocomm Development Authority of Singapore.

The latter was created in 2003 to develop the country into a vibrant global media city and a creative economy and a connected society.

The Infocomm Development Authority of Singapore functions to encourage effective competition in the telecommunications market and monitors local and global infocomm market trends to ensure that policies and regulatory frameworks remain effective and relevant.

The Aviation Leadership Summit saw International Air Transport Association Director General Giovannie Bisignani sharing findings on growth in Asia's aviation industry, whereby the sector supports 10.5 million jobs and generated US$807 worth of economic activities. -- Courtesy of The Brunei Times
