Book Fair Preparations Going In Full Swing

Bandar Seri Begawan - A meeting was held by the Language and Literature Bureau yesterday afternoon to nominate other departments from government agencies to assist the 2008 Book Fair.

Although the nominated agencies were not named by the representative from the bureau, she did state that preparations are well under way and are ready for the opening day.

"We have generally done all the necessary preparations and are anxiously waiting for the opening day which will be on February 27 at 9am."

The 2008 Book Fair will be officiated by the Minister of Culture, Youth and Sports, Pehin Orang Kaya Seri Dewa Major General (Rtd) Dato Seri Pahlawan Hj Mohammad Mohd Daud and it will last exactly 10 days with the closing date to be March 7, 2008.

The officer from the bureau also stated that although interested business establishments can still participate in the fair and apply for a booth, they will be placed in the waiting list and will be accommodated only if any registered participant drops out at the last minute."

This year's theme is entitled "Buku adalah masa depan" (Books are the future).

Looking at the public response to last year's fair, this year the bureau has changed the venue from the indoor stadium to the International Convention Centre to accommodate more participants and members of the public.  -- Courtesy of The Brunei Times
