The International Mother Language
Day or National Martyrs Day is an important event for Bangladesh
ever since Unesco (United Nations' Educational, Scientific and
Cultural Organisation) adopted a resolution as its general
conference on November 17 1999 to observe February 21 as
International Mother Language Day.
February 21 is a day to commemorate
the deaths of a number of students who were killed by police firing
on campaigners for the recognition of Bangladesh as one of the state
