Talk Focuses On Importance Of MIB
By Za'im Zaini
Bandar Seri
Begawan - There are a number of groups of people,
particularly the youths in this country, who fail to observe some or
all aspects of the philosophy of MIB (Malay Muslim Monarchy), which
is a worrying trend.
This was yesterday stated by
Universiti Brunei Darussalam (UBD) lecturer Dr Pg Hj Abu Bakar bin
Pg Hj Sarifuddin during a public lecture entitled `Importance of
Malay Muslim Monarchy for Youths in Brunei' held at UBD.
The lecture was moderated by
Profesor Madya Dr Haji Su'aidi Dato' Haji Safei.
Dr Pg Hj Abu Bakar said that there
is a large number of individuals who practise the philosophy,
however, a cause of concern is from the group of individuals which
has knowledge of the MIB philosophy, yet do not put it into practise.
He cited that among the causes in
which youths lack appreciation/practice of the national philosophy
is failure by certain schools in educating MIB among youths. He
believes there is a need to find a way to make a person stronger by
instilling `filters' in a person.
He cited one of those filters as
piety. As globalisation seeps into a nation without use of a
passport, there is a need to find a way to instil the `filters'
within society - especially the youths - to ensure the continuous
preservation of the national philosophy.
One indication which reflects the
lack of practice of MIB is the lack of attendance of youths in
mosques and lack of youth participation in mosque activities.
He urges youths who faithfully
practice the national philosophy to study hard to ensure they secure
a better position to lead or be part of the machinery that runs the
nation.
The public lecture - organised by
the UBD Department of Arts and Social Science Sultan Hassanal
Bolkiah Institue of Education - drew a crowd of academicians,
students and interested individuals. -- Courtesy of Borneo
