4 Immigration Offenders Caught
By Azaraimy HH

Bandar Seri Begawan - The Immigration Dept officers caught a 47-year-old Indonesian housemaid, Harti, on Wednesday for breaching her work permit.

Harti came to Brunei to work as a housemaid but was caught selling food at a salon when the immigration officers ran a routine check.

The officers found Harti was selling the food without consent and knowledge of her employer.

Regulation 15(3) states that foreigners working in Brunei must adhere to their work permits.

Offenders of this regulation could be locked up for not more than six months or fined not more than B$2,000, or both. Meanwhile, in a separate operation, a party of 12 immigration officers conducted a raid at several suspected locations and brought in three foreign workers who flouted the law.

The three immigration offenders were found to have expired working passes.

The public is again reminded to contact the authority if they suspect any immigration offences by calling hotline 383555, 2383777, Belait Immigration Law Enforcement at 3331879, 3341938. -- Courtesy of Borneo Bulletin
