Beer Smuggler Slapped With Hefty Fine

Bandar Seri Begawan - A Vietnamese national was slapped with a $1,500 fine or two months' jail in default by the Bandar Magistrate's Court yesterday after he pleaded guilty to having 156 undeclared cans of beer.

Le Van Dung, 37, who worked as a construction worker for a local company, was found carrying alcoholic beverages at a pier in Temburong, where he was waiting to catch a speedboat to Bandar Seri Begawan, according to Pg Hj Abd Aziz bin Pg Hj Ahniad, the Royal Customs and Excise Department prosecutor.
