Brunei Forum To Bring Awareness On
Biz Opportunities

Begawan - The upcoming Brunei Forum to be held in Singapore
next week is expected to heighten awareness and understanding of
Brunei and convey the message that Brunei's economy is growing and
new business opportunities and partnerships abound in the Sultanate
for international companies.

Paduka Timothy Ong, Acting Chairman of the Brunei Economic
Development Board (BEDB); briefed the media yesterday on the Brunei
Forum, the first to be held outside Brunei.
The programme includes a luncheon
on the occasion of the inaugural Southeast Asia Lecture by His Royal
Highness Prince Mohamed Bolk iah, Minister of Foreign Affairs and
Trade, entitled "A Southeast Asia Community - More than a matter of
Geography".
Others include presentations and
dialogue by Brunei's Minister of Education, Minister of Energy,
Minister of Foreign Affairs and Trade II and Deputy Minister of
Industry and Primary Resources on Brunei's economy, Heart of Borneo
project, energy security, human resource development and Brunei's
place in Asean.

Timothy Ong will present "Brunei's Changing Economic Landscape: New
Opportunities for Business".

Timothy Ong said, "Brunei's economy is roughly 80 years old when the
oil and gas was discovered in 1929 and in 1972, we started our LNG
business. These two businesses are driving our economy.
"Few days ago, HRH Prince Hj Al-Muhtadee
BiIlah, the Crown Prince and Senior Minister at the Prime Minister's
Office officiated the foundation laying ceremony at Sg Hang
industrial park for the methanol plant developed by the methanol
company.
"For us, this is the start of the
third wave in Brunei's economic development. It is not just that,
there are a lot of new things happening in Brunei.
There are new industries in Sg
Hang, the Pulau Muara Besar project that we are starting to develop,
the Innovation centre that we are launching and the national
development plan (RKN) 2007-2012 has lot of allocation for
infrastructure projects.
"We want the world to know there
are a lot of new business opportunities and new opportunities for
partnership for international companies," he said.
The Brunei Forum 2008 will be held
February 19 and 20 at the Grand Hyatt Hotel and at the Institute of
Southeast Asian Studies (ISEAS) in Singapore. It is coorganised by
the BEDB and ISEAS.
Participants include ministers,
senior government figures, ambassadors and business leaders with an
interest in Brunei's economic future and the business opportunities
it presents.

community is from Germany and Australia based in Singapore and
