Thai Suspends Flights To Brunei
By Ben Ng
Bandar Seri
Begawan - Thailand's national carrier Thai Airways
International has suspended all its flights in and out of Brunei
Darussalam, sources told the Bulletin.
A spokesperson for the airline
acknowledged the reports saying flights have been suspended "due to
commercial requirements" effective February 12, declining to comment
further as she was not authorised to speak to the media.
"We will release an official
statement to the media once everything is ready," the spokesperson
said yesterday.
Thai Airways in 2003 suspended
flights to Phnom Penh due to the "unsettled" situation in the
Cambodian capital and strained bilateral ties.
"The flights to and from Phnom Penh
remain suspended out of concern for passenger safety since the
situation in Phnom Penh is considered unsettled, while relations
between Thailand and Kampuchea (Cambodia) have not returned to
normal," the company said in a statement.
Despite the flight suspension that
began January 30 following anti-Thai violence that erupted a day
earlier in Phnom Penh, the Thai Airways office in the Cambodian
capital reopened for business a few days later.
