Brunei-Japan Talks On Power
Project

Begawan - The Japanese government is in an initial phase to
conduct a joint project in electricity supply with the Government of
His Majesty under the Brunei Japan Economic Partnership Agreement
that was signed- by His Majesty the Sultan and Yang Di-Pertuan of
Brunei Darussalam in June last year.
Yesterday a team of experts from
the Japan Electric Power Information Centre Inc (JEPIC) and a senior
officer from Japan's Ministry of Economy, Trade and Industry, met
with officers from Brunei's Department of Electrical Services to
assist in the review of and to propose improvements to the existing
electricity supply in Brunei Darussalam.
The Japanese delegation was led by
Mr Yoshiki linuma, Research Director of the Research Department at
Japan Electric Power Information Centre Inc (JEPIC) during the
information sharing session with Brunei's Department of Electrical
Services led by the Director, Haji Osman Bin Haji Tamin. Also
present was the Japanese Ambassador to Brunei Darussalam, Mr
Hashimoto Itsuo.
Deputy Permanent Secretary (Energy
Division) at the Prime Minister's Office, Awg Haji Ismail bin Pehin
Orang Kaya Pekerma Setia Dato Paduka Haji Hashim, was on hand to
welcome the Japanese delegation.
The non-physical projects involved
with' he regulatory framework of Brunei's electricity supply include
licensing procedures and tariffs, billing systems and revenue
collection mechanisms. Projects also concerned with technical
aspects include technical advice on operations and maintenance
regimes of the power generating equipment such as boilers, steam
turbines, heat recovery steam generators (HRSG) and gas turbines.
After the initial phase, the
possibility for future projects is subjected to the agreement
between both parties. It is the first time that the Japanese
government is working hand in hand with the Brunei government in the
field of electricity supply.
The Japanese experts will be in
Brunei Darussalam until February 15 to share their experience and
knowledge with their Bruneian counterparts.
