Increase In Breach Of Housing
Regulations, Says Dept
By Azaraimy HH
Bandar Seri
Begawan - Non-permissible renovations and modifications made
up the largest number of cases recorded at the national housing
programme and land scheme areas, authority indicated.
The Housing Development Department
reminded houseowners in these two areas to follow the stipulated
regulations, as there have been an increasing number of breaches.
According to the statistics
compiled by the department, there were 133 cases involving
non-permissible housing and land renovations between January 2002
and January 2008.
There were also other breaches,
including livestock breeding —the second-largest with 23 cases - and
unauthorised use of government land - the third-largest with 20
cases.
The issues were addressed at a
briefing session held in conjunction with the Customer Day organised
by the Ministry of Development yesterday.
Panel of speakers were Awang Hj Mat
Ramlee Hj Ibrahim and Dyg Massurianey Ya'akub from the Housing
Development Department, and Dr Diana Dennis from the Agriculture
Department of MIPR.
The session was held to exude
awareness and to remind the general public ofthe housing programme
and land scheme regulations.
More than 100 people, mostly head
villages and houseowners attended the session.
Under the national housing
programme, it is stipulated in the agreement that the houses or land
cannot be used for commercial undertaking or rented out without due
permission.
"No development and renovation are
allowed on the house and land area without written consent from the
authority.
Houseowners cannot rear livestock
as this can become a nuisance to the neighbours."
Dr Diana advised on the
contingencies to be carried out should an epidemic, like bird flu,
is detected in such housing and land scheme. -- Courtesy of Borneo
