By Debbie Too

Bandar Seri Begawan - The National Anti-Drug Association of Brunei (Basmida) will receive an award for their youth programmes in People's Democratic Republic of Laos, at the Asean Youth Day Awards.

Representing the non-governmental organisation is one of its members, Hj Mohammad Faizul Shah Neol Hj Mohd Ja'afar left for Laos yesterday. Accompanying him is an officer from the Ministry of Culture, Youth and Sports.

"We received this award because of our youth programmes on drug awareness in Brunei.

"We also send our youths to workshops out of Brunei and a few more will be attending them in the future," said Linda Aini Abdullah, Basmida's honorary secretary.

She said that Mohammad Faizul will not only receive the award, but also to present papers on Basmida's initiatives and past and future projects. She also extended Basmida's gratitude to the Ministry of Culture, Youth and Sports for their financial and moral support throughout the years.

"We are a non-profit organisation and without the support from the ministry, we wouldn't have been able to carry on with our projects as we did' in the past years," she said.

Datin Hjh Masni Hj Mohd Ali, the President of Basmida, said that she would like to see more youth to come forward and participate in Basmida activities.

According to Linda, youth members in Basmida consist of not only former addicts, but also those who are keen on venturing to spread their drug awareness to their peers.-- Courtesy of The Brunei Times
