Be Prudent In Spending For HM’s
Birthday, MoHA Tells Districts
By Izam Said Ya’akub
Tutong
- The Ministry of Home Affairs (MoHA) has urged preparations for His
Majesty's 62nd Birthday celebrations this year to be exercised with
a measure of prudence.
During yesterday's first Executive
Council Meeting on celebrations held for Tutong District, those in
attendance heard the call for celebrations to be measured, while not
taking away from the flair, vibrancy and participation of the
residents of Tutong District that was exemplified in last year's
celebrations.
A member of the Executive Committee
for this year's celebrations said "Capturing first place (among the
four districts) is not our main objective," but more importantly the
participation of the residents in this district and the general
public in the celebrations.
About 15,000 people had attended
and taken part in last year's celebrations in a coming together
which saw Tutong District pip the other districts in the annual
nationwide celebrations in honour of His Majesty's Birthday.
This year as Tutong is scheduled to
be the first of the four districts to receive His Majesty, the onus
is for more innovation and creativity in a bid to deliver a repeat
success.
As such, the preparations are
expected to be carried out well in advance, with attention to detail
a byword for the elected committee members, who look forward to July
17, the planned date for the celebrations.
"Organising committees must be
thrifty and careful while at the same time creative and innovative
in order to enliven each of their events," said the Executive
committee member.
To ensure that the financial
resources are kept in check, a specific committee has been put into
place, to ensure that the appropriated amounts budgeted for the
celebrations fall inline with financial directives.
Furthermore events this year will
be reviewed and evaluated, to allow events to be alternated among
districts, so to avoid clashes in dates and lesser participation
during the celebrations.
As participation among the public
has been regarded as one of the more significant considerations,
some events may be celebrated at the national level as opposed to
the district level.
There is still room for events to
be organised within the districts, however these may need to be
funded through sponsorships and other means such as registration
fees.
It was also highlighted that to
ensure accountability, the funding and sponsorship details will need
to be furnished to the districts' executive committees.-- Courtesy of
