Fire And Rescue Department In Lookout For New Recruits
By Ahmed Shaheeb

Bandar Seri Begawan - The Fire and Rescue Department under the Ministry of Home Affairs is currently holding practical and physical fitness tests at the Marching Field, Fire and Rescue Headquarters, to select potential trainees.

The dates for selection are as follows: February 4, 5, 6, 9, 11 and 12. Morning sessions will be from 8.30am to 12.00pm and afternoon sessions begin from 1.30pm and end at 4.30pm.

To become a member of the Fire and Rescue Department, physical and mental fitness are essential.

The department requires fire officers to be able to perform their duties and responsibilities reliably and to have stamina while attending emergency calls.

The trainee fire fighter course lasts for six months and is held at the Fire and Rescue Department's headquarters.

The practical test consists of a march, carrying a fireman's hose, climbing the fireman's ladder and using breathing apparatus.

The physical fitness test includes a 2.4 km run for men and a 1.6 km run for women, push-ups, sit-ups and star jumps.

Those who pass the practical and physical fitness tests will be invited to take a written test on February 29 at Berakas Secondary School.

About 658 male and 325 female applicants, making a total of 983, made their way through the first day of tests. -- Courtesy of Borneo Bulletin
