Fire And Rescue Department In
Lookout For New Recruits

Begawan - The Fire and Rescue Department under the Ministry
of Home Affairs is currently holding practical and physical fitness
tests at the Marching Field, Fire and Rescue Headquarters, to select
potential trainees.
The dates for selection are as
follows: February 4, 5, 6, 9, 11 and 12. Morning sessions will be
from 8.30am to 12.00pm and afternoon sessions begin from 1.30pm and
end at 4.30pm.
To become a member of the Fire and
Rescue Department, physical and mental fitness are essential.
The department requires fire
officers to be able to perform their duties and responsibilities
reliably and to have stamina while attending emergency calls.
The trainee fire fighter course
lasts for six months and is held at the Fire and Rescue Department's
headquarters.
The practical test consists of a
march, carrying a fireman's hose, climbing the fireman's ladder and
using breathing apparatus.
The physical fitness test includes
a 2.4 km run for men and a 1.6 km run for women, push-ups, sit-ups
and star jumps.
Those who pass the practical and
physical fitness tests will be invited to take a written test on
February 29 at Berakas Secondary School.
About 658 male and 325
female applicants, making a total of 983, made their way through the
