Study Opportunities At University
Of Bristol
By Ben Ng
Bandar Seri
Begawan - Representatives from the University of Bristol will
be in Brunei Darussalam to meet prospective students this month.
Interested parties can visit the James Hon Marketing and Management
exhibition and interact with the university representatives from 11
am to 7pm, 4th floor at the Mall on Friday, Feb 8.
Bristol will also be available at
JHMM's headquarters in Kiulap to interview prospective students on
Saturday, Feb 9 from 1pm to 3pm.
With history dating back to the
late 1800's, the University of Bristol has always been one of UK's
most prestigious universities with a reputation for being one of
Britain's academic powerhouses, according to JHMM.
The university forms an integral
part of the City of Bristol — a city with thousands of years of
history — with a population of about 450,000, the city boasts a
vibrant social scene.
The university's state of the art
architecture defines the city's skyline, giving the impression that
the city is one huge university campus, said student consultant
Delon Hon.
"The city also has its own
international airport and also offers easy rail and road links to
London and other parts of the UK, making it very accessible for
prospective students.
"Bristol has always been one of the
UK's leading research universities with their research achievements
matching the best international standards. According to the latest
independent Research Assessment Exercise, 36 of the university's
departments were awarded five stars out of five, placing Bristol
firmly in the top four in the UK for top rated research departments.
"The university currently welcomes
some 2,000 international students from over 100 countries.
"On average, there are about 11
applicants applying for a single place at Bristol, which makes it
one of the most popular universities in the UK. With Bristol's world
ranking approaching top 30, competition for a place at the
university will only intensify.
"The university organises its
academic affairs in six faculties; Arts, Engineering, Medical and
Veterinary Sciences, Medicine and Dentistry, Science and Social
Sciences and Law.
"Seventy-six per cent of all
academic staff work in departments which are rated world class or
internationally excellent for research. The university is a member
of the Worldwide Universities Network (WUN) as well as the Russell
Group of research intensive universities.
"The University of Bristol has
recently been ranked top eight by the 2008 Times University Guide,"
he said. -- Courtesy of Borneo
