Bandar Seri
Begawan - The first in a series of four identical 350foot
jack-ups that Singapore's Keppel Fels is building for Maersk
Contractors was unveiled recently, with the other three units to be
delivered from Keppel Fels over the coming years.
Of the MSC CJ 50 design, the
jack-up rig was named Maersk Resilient by Mrs Susanne Hemmingsen,
wife of Mr Claus Hemmingsen, the Partner in AP Moiler and CEO of
Maersk Contractors, on Jan 30 during a ceremony held at the Keppel
Fels yard in Singapore.
With maximum operating and drilling
depths of up to 350 feet and 30,000 feet respectively, the rig is
capable of operating in most parts of the world, including the
Central North Sea.
A large number of the innovative
features introduced on the world’s largest and most advanced
ultra-harsh environment jack-up rigs, Maersk Innovator and Maersk
Inspirer, have been implemented in the design of the new rigs.
On top of this, it can accommodate
up to 120 people.
The accommodation is located in two
blocks shaped like a V and wrapped around the forward leg.
Port Black is a quiet area with
cabins, while Starboard Block holds all offices, recreation rooms
and service facilities.
In addition, the rig is prepared
for High Pressure, High Temperature operations.
This jack-up rig's drilling
performance can be improved by 20 per cent, compared to that of a
typical standard rig.
Maersk Resilient has been
contracted by Dubai Petroleum Establishment for drilling operations
off the coast of Dubai in the Arabian Gulf.
It is expected to make its way to
Dubai sometime this month. -- Courtesy of Borneo
