Preliminary Round For Syair Starts Thursday

Bandar Seri Begawan - The secretariat for the Syair Recital Competition - the Association of Ex-Army Brunei Darussalam - called on all participants to come to its headquarters this Thursday February 7 at 9 am to undergo the preliminary round.

Co-secretary WO1 (Rtd) Mohamad Hj Tahir said the preliminary round is necessary as there has been good response to the contest.

"Please come to our headquarters at Teratak Perwira, Spg 284, Bolkiah Garrison, Berakas."

The finals will be held on Friday February 29 to commemorate the 24th National Day.

He said participants would need to narrate the selected verses of syair, which they have submitted together with the application forms earlier.

"Participants are also allowed to prepare their musical background, which can be played throughout their recital sessions," he added.

"The contest is divided into three categories - youth aged 19 or under, adult aged between 20 and 54, and veteran/senior citizens aged 55 and above." -- Courtesy of Borneo Bulletin
