Business School Trains Future Entrepreneurs
By Achong Tanjong

Bandar Seri Begawan - The Business Incubator Programme for 3rd Intake for Graduates of Vocational and Technical Institutions (Phase 1) -was officially opened yesterday by guest of honour, Pehin Orang Kaya Ratna Setia Dato Setia Haji Awang Abdul Hapidz, at Sekolah Perdagangan in Gadong.

The chief guest praised the initiative by the Ministry of Education through Sekolah Perdagangan (Business School) of the Technical Education Department in organising the Business Incubator Programme in 2000.

He said the programme is a very significant step in achieving the government's vision in education and training local youths, especially school leavers from technical and vocational institutions, in business and to prepare for new back-ups among the new generation to become new entrepreneurs, and at the same time make the private sector as market leaders in the future.

The programme is very important in line with government's vision to diversify local industries and not depend on the oil and gas sectors. Such programme has a role to educate and convince local communities that there are a lot of opportunities in the business sector. The programme could also change the local mindset of not hoping to work in the public sector or government because there are a lot of attractive opportunities in the private sector, he said.

Abdul Razak Holdings, a family business headed by Pehin himself, has given support to students and graduates from technical school in giving job opportunities, training and other kinds of support.

The chief guest outlined important business strategies including business plans, research and market study, financial resources, business platform and human resources before running a successful business.

The chief guest, accompanied by the principal of the school, Cikgu Habib Mohamad, made a brief tour of the Incubator Room (Dazian Enterprise & Omic Enterprise).

The Acting Director and Assistant Director of Technical Education Department, school teachers and other invited guests were also present. -- Courtesy of Borneo Bulletin
