New Police Posts To Enhance Security
By Azlan Othman & James ken

Bandar Seri Begawan - The Royal Brunei Police Force has set up two new police posts along the Muara-Tutong highway and Kiulap commercial area to improve their response time in emergencies like road accidents and to generally enhance the level of security in their vicinities.

The Commissioner of Police said the presence of the new police post on the Muara-Tutong highway would also help to prevent illegal street racing.

Pehin Datu Kenna Setia CP Dato Paduka Seri Zainuddin bin Jalani spoke to the media during the launching of the new police posts yesterday.

"We all are aware that our highway is normally quiet around midnight. The presence of the police post will assure the safety of the road users. At the same time, the presence of such police post would enhance the response time in road accidents. Prior to this, we used to dispatch our police from Jerudong or Tutong police districts.

"The new police posts are also meant to enhance our service to the community while at the same time facilitate the

public to communicate with the police," said Pehin Zainuddin.

Meanwhile, Snr Supt Pg Sulaiman, chairperson of the launching ceremony of the police posts said the police are aware of the safety requirements of the public. The presence of police personnel (at the posts) will assist in crime prevention.

"Its presence on the Muara-Tutong highway could enhance road users' confidence while at the same time reduce the number of traffic offences and accidents. The presence of the Kiulap police post would facilitate the public to deal with the police for mishaps that always occur, to report missing documents, relaying information, to look for assistance and so on.

"Quick action by the public in reporting could facilitate the police to carry out investigations and take early actions. Personnel at the post can also carry out patrols regularly and help in crime prevention," he added.

One of the police posts, located halfway between Tutong and Muara, is a prime location for traffic police to conduct patrols along the highway. A number of police personnel from the Traffic Investigation and Control Department will be placed at the post.

The new police post is equipped with a VHF radio or walkie-talkie for traffic police to communicate with each other and the Traffic Investigation and Control Department.

During the ceremony, Pehin Zainuddin handed over the police post to Acting ACP Pg Hj Abdul Wahab bin Pg Hj Omar, Director of Traffic Investigation and Control Department.

The police commissioner also toured the new police post and inspected the walkie-talkie equipment.

Meanwhile, at the launch of the police post in Kiulap, when asked about the promised reward to the informer following Sunday's arrest of the wanted fugitive, Khairul bin Hj Dagang, Pehin Dato Paduka Zainuddin said he is yet to receive a report from the Commanding Officer of the operation.

"Once the details have been received, we will analyse whether such information was given by an informant or the public or was due to the concerted effort of the police themselves."

Khaitul, a fugitive on the run and wanted by the police for several offences, was apprehended by the police on Sunday at a field in Kg Bengkurong Masin.

Shortly after his disappearance about two weeks ago, the police announced a cash reward of $ 10,000 for information that could lead to the arrest of Khairul. -- Courtesy of Borneo Bulletin
