UNISSA To Focus On Research

Begawan - As a new university, University Islam Sultan Sharif
All (UNISSA) has the opportunity to build a strong and strategic
foundation as a base for future developments.
It is hoped that UNISSA will not
only pay attention towards expanding its undergraduate studies and
courses, but at the same time, initiate postgraduate studies and
focus on research.
The Minister of Communications,
made the call at the official closing of the Regional al-Quran
Recital Competition for Higher Educational Institutions Saturday
night.
The event took place at the
Auditorium of Radio Television Brunei in the capital, RTB reported.
Pehin
Dato Haji Awang Abu Bakar said a university's excellence is always
linked to its outstanding performance in research works which often
become the guidelines in determining it as a leading and prestigious
university.
He also said that importance of
research and development for a university is as important as its
contribution of research and development to the country's
development.
Awang
Muhamad Fahmi bin Haji Awang Metusin from the Kolej Universiti
Perguruan Ugama Seri Begawan, Brunei, emerged as the champion in the
men's category.
Dayang
Amal Nazirah binti Haji Asmat also from the same university college
emerged as the women's champion.
The Quran reading competition was
organised in conjunction with the formation of University Islam
Sultan Sharif Ali which was formed early last year.
It was aimed at fostering relations
among higher institutions in this region. Ten readers took part in
competition representing Malaysia, Singapore and Brunei Darussalam. -- Courtesy of Borneo
