Xinhua reported that the five-point consensus was reached after Mr Yang Jiechi held talks with Brunei's Minister of Foreign Affairs and Trade, HRH Prince Mohamed Bolkiah.

According to the consensus, China and Brunei will maintain exchanges of high-ranking official visits and enhance their traditional friendship.

The two countries also agreed to tap the potential to deepen and expand their economic and trade cooperation.

Meanwhile, the two countries agreed to strengthen cooperation in areas such as agriculture, petroleum engineering technology, port development, road and bridge constructions.

The two sides will also expand their cooperation in culture, education, tourism, human resources development and further deepen the consultations and cooperation between the foreign ministries of the two countries, Xinhua added.

Mr Yang said that China and Brunei saw close exchanges of trade and people since the ancient times and the traditional friendship between the two countries developed substantially since the two countries established diplomatic ties 16 years ago.
