21 Foreign Workers Questioned On
Suspicion Of Illegal Labour
By Azaraimy HH
Bandar Seri
Begawan - Twenty-one foreign workers suspected of illegal
labour in Brunei were detained early Saturday morning following a
lightning raid operation conducted by a group of officers from the
Law Enforcement Unit of the Immigration and National Registration
Department.
Out of the 21, three of whom were
Filipino nationals, were found to have violated the immigration law
in various offences.
In upholding and guarding the
sovereignty of the law, some 21 officers from the unit, led by the
Acting Assistant Director of Immigration, raided seven targets,
which were locations suspected earlier ofpotentially harbouring
illegal workers.
The operation was codenamed Ops
Pintas 12/08.
The 21 suspects were detained for
failing to show valid documents to the raiding party, but were later
released, except three of them. They had been working and living in
Brunei with expired immigration passes, for 465 days, 241 days and
371 days respectively.
The Department of Immigration and
National Registration reiterated that they will continue to run
raiding operations as necessary, and the public is asked to
cooperate with the department by providing any information they
might have in relation to immigration violations.
The public may contact immigration
personnel at 3331879/3341938 or 2383555 or 2383777 during office
hours. -- Courtesy of Borneo
