Luck Runs Out For Kota Batu 4-D Anthill
By Azlan Othman

Bandar Seri Begawan - The deviationist practice of worshipping an anthill in order to strike four-digit lottery to get rich quick in one of the villages in Mukim Kota Batu became history when religious authorities and villagers demolished a three-foot home of ants, yesterday morning.

Led by officers from Aqidah Control Section of the Islamic Dakwah Centre and a teacher from the Course and Guidance Section who recited a special prayer or 'Doa' to get rid of the 'genie' prior to demolishing it, the anthill locally known as 'Busut' was found underneath a staircase of a wooden house.

The house was rented by a convert and the anthill was surrounded by joss sticks, cans, orange and other items used for worshipping. At that time, the occupant of the house was not around.

The head of the Aqidah Control Section expressed his concern that besides non-Muslims, some Muslims have also worshipped such anthills in order to strike four-digit lottery or to Bernazar' (vow for a wish to come true).

the attention of the Islamic Dakwah Centre by the villagers and the village head. Prior to demolishing it, a special prayer was read a teacher to get rid of the 'genie' that safeguarded the anthill. The teacher said genies would be attracted by the smell of joss sticks. "Prior to demolishing it, we need to lock the genie first," the religious teacher told the Sunday Bulletin.

The Aqidah Control Officer said this anthill was the sixth of its kind that was demolished throughout the country in recent months. Not long ago, a big tree trunk found in Kg Sinaut was also demolished.

"It is a marathon task to get rid of the genie found in such a big tree," the teacher added. -- Courtesy of Borneo Bulletin
