Smarter's Charity Evening
By Anna Abu Bakar
Bandar Seri
Begawan - The Charity Evening 2008 for Smarter geared up for
tonight will witness an evening of entertainment mixed with a good
cause where proceeds from ticket sales will go to Smarter Brunei.
The event is organised by the
students of the Institute of Medicine, Universiti Brunei Darussalam,
in collaboration with PhuturePhase Productions and in partnership
with Radio Televisyen Brunei (RTB).
Her Royal Highness Paduka Seri
Pengiran Anak Isteri Pengiran Anak Sarah Pengiran Salleh Ab Rahaman
is also expected to grace the event with her presence as special
guest of honour.
Thus far, there have been a large
number of supports provided by a high number of sponsors both from
the private and government sectors as well as many volunteers for
the event.
What can be expected out of the
charity evening tonight is a variety of performances not only from
the talented local artists but also from equally talented autistic
children from Smarter Brunei.
PhuturePhase
Production artists who will be expected to make an appearance during
the event will include Hans Anwar, Putri Norizah, Faiz, Noraishah,
Lo Ryder, Sri Nazrina, Joe M, Millin and Nana to name a few.
All ticket holders will have an
opportunity to win some attractive prizes in a lucky draw.
The public has already been
encouraged to take the opportunity to lend a helping hand to the
community and to help those in need and to remember that everyone
can make a difference. Smarter's (Society for the Management of
Autism Related Issues in Training, Education and Resources) aims and
objectives are: to provide emotional support for parents and family
members; to provide educational support by opening the ASD centre;
to ensure our children can be self-actualised and independent
members of our society; to ensure a brighter future for our autistic
children and to create an autism friendly nation.
Currently, there are 62 children
diagnosed with autism attending Smarter Brunei. However, statistics
show that there are in fact, 315 autistic children in Brunei and the
number is expected to increase in the coming years.
The charity evening serves to
highlight to the general public to acknowledge the importance and be
more aware of autism and how early intervention of this
developmental disorder can benefit the autistic child in terms of
communication, behaviour and social interaction in the long run.-- Courtesy of
