First Major Go-Karting Event
Begins Today
By Hadi DP Mahmud
Bandar Seri
Begawan - Highly anticipated by go-karters and fans alike,
the first major gokarting event of the year begins today at the
Karnival Motor Kuala Belait 2008, which will also see the festival's
`official' opening ceremony by the Deputy Minister of Home Affairs.
Local go-karters that have been
making the longer journey to Miri over the past years to race in
what they feel are more appropriate circuits will have the chance to
demonstrate their driving skills starting 4pm today at the Kuala
Belait Municipal Board's Building.
Fans that used to witness some
fearless driving from years ago will be able to see both 100cc air
and water cooled karts, and Rotax Max 125cc karts, in two categories
taking to the streets of Kuala Belait, with local karters taking on
those from Miri and even Kuala Lumpur.
Sponsors NBT Brunei, TCY Motors and
Setia Motors will be dishing out cash prizes for the gokart
competition, which is split into two categories: 125cc and 100cc.
For each category, prizes up for grabs include $500 cash plus a
certificate of recognition for the champion, followed by $300 and
$200 for the runners-up.
Children will be treated to a Mini
Treasure Hunt organised by the Kentucky Fried Chicken (KFC)
franchise. There will also be a live band performance by D'Medley
from 8pm onwards to entertain the masses. Registration for the
go-kart racing competition is open until 3pm today. Those interested
can prepare $100 in cash and contact Mansor at 8720989.-- Courtesy of
