China's Minister In Brunei

Begawan - Oil and gas have been cited as the sector with the
greatest potential for cooperation between Brunei and China.
This was highlighted by Yang Jiechi,
Foreign Minister of the People's Republic of China, who arrives
today for a two-day visit. He also gave a resounding endorsement for
trade between China and the sultanate.'
"The oil and gas sector is a pillar
of our business relationship and holds great potential for
cooperation. The Chinese government supports Chinese companies in
making investment in this sector in Brunei, providing technical
services in oil engineering so as to expand our cooperation in the
oil and gas sector," said the foreign minister in a written
interview with The Brunei Times.
The minister emphasised that China
is also in support of putting into place an economic and trade
consultation mechanism to explore new ways of expanding business
ties.
Since establishing bilateral trade,
business has grown by about 20 times.
Brunei has an ambitious target of
reaching US$1 billion ($1.4 billion) in trade with China by 2010,
and also hopes to penetrate the Chinese Muslim market. -- Courtesy of
