Bandar Seri
Begawan - Professor David Bellamy, a leading conservationist
and documentary presenter from the UK, yesterday made a surprise
visit to the International School Brunei (ISB) during the school's
special Chinese New Year Assembly.
Professor Bellamy, who made a
surprise entrance while hiding under the head of a Lion dance prop,
was warmly greeted by excited students and staff members of ISB.
"I am very happy to be back here in
beautiful Brunei, to be surrounded by lush green tress in pristine
condition and the, breath-taking scenery. I am so pleased to know
that since my last visit, the ISB community has actively worked
together to contribute towards their Million Trees Project in
various ways. It is always delightful to see young people getting
involved and caring for the environment and pressing world issues.
The commendable support given by local businesses to this student
conference is indicative of the community and country's awareness of
the importance of investing in today's youth," he said.
Professor Bellamy first came to
Brunei in March 2007 as a special invited guest speaker at ISB's
Borneo Global Issues Conference V alongside 2004 Nobel Peace Prize
laureate Professor Wangari Maathai, addressing nearly 300 secondary
students from Brunei and the Southeast Asian region.
This year's upcoming ISB BGIC VI
will remain high profile, hosting two celebrities from the Animal
Planet Channel - Monty Halls and Dr Allison Cronin. -- Courtesy of Borneo
