ISB Celebrates Chinese New Year

Bandar Seri Begawan - International School Brunei (ISB) in Berakas yesterday held a special Chinese New Year Assembly to welcome in the Lunar New Year of the Rat that falls on February 7.

Like previous years, the event held at the school's assembly hall, was aimed at showing the recognition of the multicultural community of its students through a colourful presentation that is rich in culture.

Among those who attended the assembly was YAM Pengiran Anak 'Aliiyah Amalul Bulqiah, daughter of His Royal Highness Prince Sufri Bolkiah.

A line-up of presentations by primary and secondary students including a traditional Chinese fan dance, a modern dance, a song performance and the spectacular Lion Dance performance were showcased at the colourful event.

Powerpoint presentations were also used as a prop to deliver the cultural background and traditional practices of the Lunar festivities. Students were also seen supporting the event where some were seen wearing red the 'cheongsam' - the traditional Chinese attire. At the end of the event, students and staff also received 'hongbaos' (red packets) and Mandarin oranges for prosperity and good health.  -- Courtesy of Borneo Bulletin
