International Exhibition At
Bumiputera Commercial Complex
By Rosli Abidin Yahya
Bandar Seri
Begawan - Three batik textile companies from Kelantan,
Malaysia are currently participating in the International Exhibition
and Sale at the Bumiputera Commercial Complex in the capital for the
third time in a show of trust towards the local market.
Owners of RSB Collections, Veena
Collections and Fareen Silk House said they would like to hold a
batik fashion show in the Sultanate in the near future to promote
their collections and manufacturing business.
"We also don't mind transferring
our batik-making technology to interested individuals. We will do
this by holding batik workshops in the country," they said.
In the past, the companies nearly
sold out their latest collections every time they came to Brunei for
exhibitions.
"Bruneians are definitely
fashion-conscious and love new batik designs. The market may be
small, but there is a huge purchasing ability," they said.
The exhibition is organised by the
Department of Community Development, Ministry of Culture, Youth and
Sports and is facilitated by Syarikat Perdana.
Meanwhile, two local companies
specialising in curtains, Jasa Ibu Enterprise and Puteri Bungsu
Enterprise, said they have been participating in exhibitions around
the country, as they felt they could attract new customers from the
events.
"We have showrooms in Kiulap
Commercial Complex, but we are very keen in participating in such
events hoping to bring in more customers our way," said Hjh Murna
Yetti of Jasa Ibu Enterprise.
"Our prices on the Indonesian-made
curtains are moderate and people are usually surprised to find that
it is not expensive to buy elaborately-designed drapes."
Various items such as bags,
religious books, perfumes, food supplements, scarves and toys are
also available at the exhibition.
Members of the public are welcome
to visit the exhibition from 10am to 10pm. -- Courtesy of Borneo
