SCB’s Grow-Your-Plant Contest
By Ben Ng
Bandar Seri
Begawan - Standard Chartered Bank (SCB) yesterday presented
awards to students who participated in the SCB's Grow-Your-Plant
Competition, where they contested to grow tallest and healthiest
plants.
The 15 finalists from three
participating schools - Jerudong International School, Yayasan
Sultan Haji Hassanal Bolkiah Primary School and Pusar Ulak Primary
School - proudly displayed their plants in front of SCB staff,
school principals and members of the media.
The competition launched in October
last year was aimed at raising awareness on environmental
conservation among Bruneian youths, and acting as a medium in
promoting the importance of being eco-active.
"It is with great pride to see
today, that the `seeds of change' planted just over three months ago
has blossomed beautifully. The Grow-Your-Plant competition is a fun
and unique way the youth can participate in ecoactivities, and this
can help develop a mindset where the conservation of the earth comes
second nature," SCB Chief Executive Officer, Siew Chuen said in her
opening remarks.
"These children are the future
guardians of Mother Earth and we have the responsibility to be role
models by educating the youths through our actions and not by words
alone. We at Standard Chartered Bank have a
commitment to be the right partner to the community, as well as the
environment, and this is just one of the ways we can raise awareness
and make a difference. I'd like to take the opportunity to thank the
schools involved for making this event a success," she concluded.
The CEO then measured the remaining
15 plants to select the five winners with the best plants. Nur
Asyiqin Bazilah Hj Ali Hassan took first place winning an SCB "My
Dream Savings Account" worth $200.
Coming in second was Nicholas Been
who also won an SCB dream savings account worth $100. Third, fourth
and fifth place winners each took home bookstore vouchers worth $50. -- Courtesy of Borneo
