preventive measures against
opportunistic crimes such as not leaving handbags inside
trolleys while shopping, not to give hand phones to strangers,
not to expose valuable items inside cars, not to rush when
withdrawing money from ATMs, install extra security equipment
such as CCTVs, illuminate houses properly and avoid leaving
ladders around houses.
Earlier, the OCPD of the Brunei
Police District, Snr Supt Pg Hj Rakit said the influx of illegal
immigrants and undesirable or suspicious elements should not be
ignored. It must be reported to the police immediately. The
community must be willing to come forward to assist the
enforcement agencies. |
He added that youths should also be
monitored against social ills such as misuse of drugs, following
deviant beliefs and so on.
Pg Hj Rakit said the gathering was
aimed at fostering closer ties between the police and the community
through the village leaders. It was also to disseminate information
on the trend and frequency of crimes under the Brunei Police
District and as a platform in finding effective ways to wipe out
crime.
"This is a golden opportunity for
the leaders and heads of the community to interact with the police
to gather information and true picture on the kinds of criminal
activities happening in the Sultanate. Every citizen and resident
should play their respective roles and not solely place the
responsibility on the security and enforcement agencies. By
upholding peace and security jointly, the nation could progress and
develop."
He also urged the public to be
alert on the crimes happening around them. The success of the police
in executing their duties mostly depends on the cooperation from the
community.
Meanwhile, YB Hj Bakar bin Mansor,
Village Chief of Mukim Lumapas lauded the recent success of the
police force in nabbing the men behind the recent robbery cases.
The village leaders also toured an
exhibition displaying the various equipment used by the police such
as trapping over-speeding vehicles, in patrolling the Brunei waters
and uniform worn by the police in the olden days. -- Courtesy
